Microneedling works by stimulating your body to increase production of elastin and collagen and trigger your skin’s natural healing response. It is minimally invasive and safe for all skin tones, but can tackle serious skin concerns like stretchmarks or the crepey skin we all dread as we age. From brown spots to enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation, Microneedling is a miracle worker.
Don’t let the word needle deter you. The tiny needles are fine, and the procedure is painless with the use of a quality, effective numbing cream – and Microneedling can be combined with other procedures like PRP to accomplish transformation you never imagined possible.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses very fine needles to stimulate the skin to trigger new collagen synthesis and provide a channel for better delivery of product. Used to treat and improve conditions like acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues, most people have microneedling done on their face, but it can also be performed on your neck, back, legs and other areas that have damaged or aging skin.
It is also known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, skin needling and dermarolling. The treatment involves pricking the skin using a handheld device (usually a manual roller or electric device) with rows of fine needles that create microscopic punctures, inducing production of collagen, as well as elastin.
Here at One Agora Integrative Health, we leverage the powerful effects of Microneedling to address several different cosmetic concerns, including:
Most people seek out Microneedling for cosmetic purposes, but it can also help with some medical conditions as well – like Alopecia areata (hair loss due to an autoimmune disease) or Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Microneedling has a long, proven history, and its benefits have been clearly established in the years it has been in use. Benefits include:
Microneedling is one of our procedures that does not carry the risk of skin discoloration. Unlike some of our facial rejuvenation procedures that utilize chemicals, heat, light or lasers, Microneedling is ideal for individuals with darker skin tones.
The top and outermost layer of your skin can become thinner with age. Microneedling can assist by thickening your epidermis. Your body also responds to the tiny Microneedling “punctures” by producing more collagen and elastin. These punctures, too, can trigger your natural healing process, which increases blood flow, generates fresh new skin tissue and removes debris. All of this helps your skin become firmer and smoother, fresher, brighter and tighter.
Microneedling can be used alongside other skin rejuvenation procedures. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be added to a microneedling session for an additional cost.
PRP is an anti-aging and healing breakthrough that has changed the face of medical aesthetics and cosmetic procedures that rejuvenate skin and counter the effects of aging. PRP can reverse years of sun exposure, stress and aging, all while safely utilizing the power of the platelets in your own blood for tissue regeneration and transformative healing and rejuvenation.
PRP is obtained by taking the blood of the client and centrifuging it to obtain growth factors in the blood. PRP has effectively been used to treat a wide variety of cosmetic and even medical conditions, including skin rejuvenation and hair loss. PRP uses growth factors in platelets to stimulate cell replication, promote formation of new growth factors, and stimulate proliferation of cells.
Microneedling with PRP is said to create more tightness in the skin and speed the healing process along. It has become popularly known as a "Vampire Facial."
At your initial consultation, we will take a full medical history and evaluate the other skin rejuvenation options you've tried. Our team will determine together with you if you would be a good candidate for Microneedling.
If you’ve tried other treatments that have not given you the results you seek, then you may be a good candidate for Microneedling. Microneedling, especially together with PRP, often succeeds where other treatments may have failed before.

Most people experience little to no discomfort, especially with the use of numbing agents.
We have many patients who experience no side effects at all. Almost everyone can wear makeup the day following the procedure, but it is recommended you stay out of the sun until your skin completely heals.
Every patient is different, and some may see some swelling, heat or redness at the injection site, but these effects are only temporary and typically dissipate over 24 to 48 hours. Microneedling has minimal side effects. In some cases, skin could be red and swollen for up to five days. An ice pack can be used to reduce irritation and discomfort.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatments can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Your initial consultation may take longer as we will require extra time to complete your medical history. Also factor in the time required for the numbing agent to take effect and for your skin to be cleansed and disinfected following your procedure. If PRP is involved, also allow time for your blood to be drawn and centrifuged.
Results can vary among individuals. Most people require multiple treatments to achieve desired results. You can repeat Microneedling every 3-8 weeks, according to your goals, the speed at which your skin heals, and your skin’s reaction to Microneedling. You will see results within 3-6 months after a few sessions of Microneedling, and results will continue to improve as you continue the sessions.
The longevity of your effects and the number of treatments needed will depend on the specific condition being addressed and how long you’ve had these conditions. Once you achieve your skin treatment goals, annual maintenance is generally sufficient to maintain your results.
Yes. A good example is PRP, discussed above. Microneedling with PRP is said to create more tightness in the skin and speed the healing process along. It has become popularly known as a "Vampire Facial."
Microneedling is less invasive than many aesthetic procedures, and certainly less invasive than cosmetic surgery, but it is still not completely without risk. If you have certain allergies (e.g., to stainless steel), have hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction, anemia, cancer, or blood clotting disorders, Microneedling may not be right for you.
If you have sores, irritated skin in the treatment area, or open wounds, treatment will be delayed until these skin issues are resolved. Also, if you are pregnant or nursing or taking certain medications, there may be reasons we need to delay treatment. Microneedling may not be right for people with certain conditions like acne, psoriasis and eczema.
We will discuss all of your safety concerns at our first session before proceeding with treatment.
