Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture, is a treatment that uses fine needles to improve the appearance of the skin. It not only reduces signs of aging and improves skin tone, texture and elasticity, but it promotes relaxation and stress relief as well. It is often used as a natural, chemical-free alternative to Botox or dermal fillers.
There are so many benefits to Cosmetic Acupuncture, but the primary benefits include:
Unlike other skin rejuvenation treatment options, Cosmetic Acupuncture addresses not only the appearance of your skin, but also your skin’s health.
Cosmetic Acupuncture can be effective in improving the following skin conditions:
Countering the daily effects of stress, sun exposure, or aging skin and softening lines and wrinkles – even frown lines – Cosmetic Acupuncture offers profound results for hard-to-treat areas and is especially beneficial for people with chemical sensitivities who cannot tolerate Botox or dermal fillers.
Your Cosmetic Acupuncture will be provided in our office. During your appointment, sterile, thin needles are inserted into specific points on the face and neck as well as along different points of the body. When the needles puncture the skin, they create what are called microtraumas. As your body senses these wounds, it goes into repair mode – the same mechanism microneedling triggers.
These punctures stimulate your circulatory and lymphatic systems, to deliver nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells, nourishing and healing your skin from the inside out. During this process, the microtraumas also stimulate collagen production, improve circulation, and promote relaxation, all of which can help to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, puffiness, and sagging skin.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is an excellent option for you if you have chemical sensitivities and cannot tolerate Botox or other dermal fillers. In some cases, some patients do not respond to treatment with injectables because of neutralizing antibodies their bodies create. This can result from additives used In the injectable formula – but Cosmetic Acupuncture is natural and completely free of any substances or chemicals, so you won’t develop antibodies that work against the treatment.

You may experience a slight pinch at insertion or nothing at all. However, once the needles are in, you may be aware of the needles but there should be no pain or discomfort.
Most frequently, there are little to no side effects after acupuncture treatment. In rare cases, you may see some light swelling, bruising, soreness or redness at the needle site, but these effects are only temporary.
Your initial consultation may take longer as we will require extra time to complete your medical history and can vary between an hour to an hour and a half. Follow-up treatments take roughly an hour but can be shorter depending on the extent of your aesthetic needs.
Although results may vary among individuals, you may notice results as soon as one treatment, but for the full effect patients will need to have a cosmetic acupuncture appointment once to twice per week for a total of 12-20 treatments. Maintenance sessions can be scheduled every month or two.
Cosmetic acupuncture results can last for years after the initial treatment plan is finished. There may need to be spot touch ups, but otherwise the results are long-lasting.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is less invasive than facial injections which are less invasive than cosmetic surgery, but no cosmetic procedure is completely without risk. Cosmetic Acupuncture has an excellent safety profile, but if you have certain allergies (e.g., to stainless steel), have hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction, anemia, cancer, or blood clotting disorders, Cosmetic Acupuncture may not be for you. If you have sores, irritated skin in the treatment area, or open wounds, treatment will be delayed until these skin issues are resolved.
We will discuss all of your safety concerns at our first session before proceeding with treatment.
